These three words “it’s Mercury Retrograde” are coming out of everyone’s mouth these days faster than a speeding bullet. Just talking about it is more popular than ever and it’s almost like the new therapy that gives new meaning and definition to what’s wrong with our lives. Everyone’s posting about it in on Facebook, twitter or on their blog (including me). Mercury Retrograde is currently the popular bad boy planet to blame for all the atrocious, dreadful, cruddy and miserable things that can happen during three week’s of what has been labeled as a “total communication breakdown cycle.” And In case you weren’t in the loop, a Mercury Retrograde cycle happens 3 to 4 times a year forcing us to deal with the traditional advice of not to sign contracts, not to travel, not to schedule important events and that includes entering into new relationships or getting married. These cycles in increments of 3 or 4 weeks at a time take up 9 to 12 weeks out of the year.
What is Mercury and What’s All This Woop About Mercury Retrograde?
Poor Mercury has gotten a very bad rap indeed. A Mercury Retrograde cycle is really not that bad and is not the thing to blame our woes on. Actually it is in place in the universe as a test to see how we think and adjust to shifting situations. It’s learning to go with the backward twist of this tiny little planet in the solar system that gets the biggest reaction out of us to revise different parts of our lives.
Even if you don’t fully understand Mercury Retrograde, most of you have heard of it at least a little tiny bit. For starters, Mercury is the smallest and closest to the sun out of 8 planets in the solar system. Mercury Retrograde is something that happens when Mercury slows down in the solar system. When it slows down, it does tend to create chaos and confusion in the areas of communication during a three-week cycle 3 to 4 times a year. A Mercury Retrograde cycle is when Mercury appears to be traveling backwards in the solar system. However, according to many astrologists,
A planet is described to be in retrograde when it ‘appears’ to be moving backwards through the zodiac. Actually this is an illusory planetary motion created by the orbital rotation of the earth with relation to other planets in the solar system. Planets are never actually retrograde or stationary, they just seem that way due to this cosmic shadow-play.
Retrograde cycles create illusions from our perspective as earthly beings due to the fact that the earth is orbiting the sun at a different speed than the other planets. When a planet retrogrades, it shifts all the energy affecting us in opposite ways and can breed confusion and chaos in how we receive, interpret and then relay the original information we received. When a planet is in a slow and lethargic state, it affects all zones associated with speaking, listening and the negotiation process. The areas that could potentially affect someone during a Mercury Retrograde cycle would be when buying, selling, traveling or signing contracts for example. The prudent thing to do is think things through before engaging in a conversation or anything to do with money, travel or signing any legal agreement or contract. This includes scheduling Dr. visits or surgery.
This year, all of the Mercury Retrograde cycle periods are in water signs ruling emotions and feelings. This means that all emotional issues in relationships should be re-examined, reevaluated and reassessed to align more with the intuitiveness that water signs bring out in the open. These next 3 retrograde cycles in water signs are really about opening up the intuitive process of the emotional-body that oftentimes is neglected or ignored in favor of the ego-mind. These important Mercury Retrograde cycles in water signs assist us in opening up the heart chakra and listening to our heart. It’s about connection to divine spirit as the source of love♥
Mercury is Retrograde in Pisces
February 6-28, 2014
Mercury goes retrograde during the month of love and is a 2-9 vibration in February. It’s a time of looking at relationships with more compassion and being sensitive, tactful and diplomatic. Interestingly enough, the first day of Mercury Retrograde vibrates to a 6 universal day intensifying relationships that need to be reviewed.
While the 6 is the number of love, relationships and responsibility to family – when this number appears during Mercury Retrograde, emotionally unstable situations can be created and there could be some anxiety or jealousy issues that need to be dealt with. Anything to do with family, children, spouses or anything related to emotions and feelings in these areas are quite unstable during this Mercury Retrograde cycle.
When you find these kind of issues coming up, it’s an excellent time to take a time out from loved ones and let things be for an hour or whatever it takes for you. Go for a walk. Breathe. Meditate. When the cycle is over, you can resume negations and communication will return to normal. Excellent time to be non-reactive because the energy is going to be in flux for 3 weeks. Gather the information around you and release any negativity. Go with the flow as they say.
